PHONICS is the association between the letters in our alphabet and the sounds in our spoken language.

If you show the student a picture of a horse and ask what it is, the student will be able to tell you. "It's a horse."

If you point out that the word "Horse" begins with an "H" sound and use the images to show that the "H" sound goes with the letter "H," the student will soon be able to associate the letter "H" with the sound it represents.
